About Us
In 2003, Craig and Mitra Roberts created The Starfish Academy, for Exceptional Children LLC to provide a daycare environment that supported the unique needs of families and children with developmental disabilities. Their inspiration came from their own experiences parenting an exceptional child.
In 2007, Mitra completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology at Wright State University. She graduated with highest honors and focused her studies on psycho-biology, developmental psychology, and cognitive neuroscience.
After graduating, Mitra went to work as a QMRP (Qualified Mental Retardation Professional) and worked for two years at an agency serving the adult disability community. During this time she gained valuable experience in creating and implementing programs for skill acquisition, writing individual plans, formulation of positive behavioral supports, and client advocacy.
Mitra is completing her Masters of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling at Wright State University and has returned her professional focus back to The Starfish Academy, for Exceptional Children LLC.
Mitra serves on the Board of Directors of Bridge Riding for the Disabled. Bridge Riding is a therapeutic horseback riding center located in Lebanon, Ohio.
In addition, Mitra has her certifications in First Aid, CPR, and CPI (non-violent crisis intervention).
